The College Library Committee* recently approved a revised collection development policy (the IRMAP) for Imperial College Library. A copy is available on the Library homepage – About the Library/Policy & Strategic Directions/IRMAP

This Policy gives guidelines on the selection, location, retention and relegation of the Library’s information resources, in order to support the research, teaching and learning needs of the College in the 21st century.

The shift will be towards electronic availability of information wherever possible. Print material will be kept on-site where of high relevance, value and use to College; print material of low relevance, value and use will be stored off-site or disposed.

Faculty Support Librarians will be involved in the ongoing analysis of Library resources and will consult wherever feasible with relevant staff and researchers when decisions are made about disposal of resources.

A current analysis is taking place of all print journals held in the Central Library. For further information about this or details of other resources to be analysed in 2007, please contact your Liaison Librarian, Jenny Evans.

Reps on the College Library Committee are:

Faculty of Engineering: Prof D Chadwick, Dr D Lloyd Smith;

Faculty of Natural Sciences: Prof M Robb, Prof A Warwick;

Faculty of Medicine: Prof S Kroll, Dr D Dexter;

Business School: Prof R MacCulloch;

Humanities Programme: Dr F Mellor.
