If you are supervising either undergraduate or postgraduate projects in your research area, please do not forget I am available to support these projects.

I can purchase new/additional copies of books and can give one-off sessions such as how to use databases such as Inspec, Mathscinet and how to reference.

Just send me an email, give me a call, or drop in to the Maths Library, room 416 in the Huxley building to let me know.

The Central Library offers lunch time sessions in searching various databases as well as how to use other electronic resources. See the Learning and Research Support Programme for further information.

There are also useful links on the Library website including:

  • Resource Guides – Information on the most useful bibliographic databases for your subject area.
  • Web links – Lists of evaluated websites relevant to your subject area.

We have a number of series in the Maths Library, that due to various reasons can be quite hard to find. We hope to improve access to these titles, but for time being – here is some useful information for locating them:

Lecture Notes in Mathematics

  • This can be found on the library catalogue as a journal title and is shelved in the journals collection in the Maths Library.
  • Some volumes are catalogued individually – so you can try checking the library catalogue – but if you can’t find a title, it is worth physically checking the shelves in the Maths Library to see if we have a particular volume (or you can ring us or email us to check).
  • See the Springer website Lecture Notes in Mathematics page for further information, though note we do not have electronic access to this title.

Advances in Applied Mechanics

  • Can be found on the library catalogue as a journal title.
  • Is shelved at 531 ADV in the Maths Library book collection.
  • We hold from Volume 1 (1948 ) until Volume 40 (2004) – it is published irregularly and this is the most recent volume published.

Solid State Physics

  • Monograph series
  • Located in the book collection in the Maths Library at 538.9 SOL
  • Can be searched for via the library catalogue as a journal title and some volumes are also catalogued as book titles.

We also have electronic access to all volumes of these titles:

  • Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics
  • Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics

You can find them via the library catalogue or the A-Z list of e-journals found on the library website.

Please do ask us if you are struggling to find any title in the Maths Library.
