We are coming to the end of the financial year, so please do send me suggestions for any research books for your research area in the Central Library.
If you are wondering what has been published lately, see the Physics – new titles being published page of this blog.
Please note, this request is not for textbooks to support taught courses.
I need these suggestions as soon as possible.
Thanks!
Dear Jenny,
To follow up on my message from yesterday, here are several books which would be very useful to have at the library. They are not for supporting any taught courses but would be very useful for several research members of the SPAT group.
Thanks,
Marina.
- Schunk and Nagy, Ionospheres: Physics, Plasma Physics, and Chemistry,
Cambridge University Pres, (ISBN-13: 9780521632379, ISBN-10: 0521632374),
2000.
- Michael Mishchenko et al.: Multiple Scattering of Light by
Particles – Radiative Transfer and Coherent Backscattering, Cambridge
University Press, (ISBN-13: 9780521834902 | ISBN-10: 0521834902), 2006
- Imke de Pater and Jack Lissauer: Planetary Sciences, Cambridge
University Press, (ISBN-13: 9780521482196 | ISBN-10: 0521482194), 2001
Introduction to Elementary Particles (Paperback) by David Griffiths
Paperback: 450 pages
Publisher: Wiley VCH (9 April 2008)
Language English
ISBN-10: 3527406018
which is coming out in April, is the long-awaited second edition of a classic book introducing particle physics.
The first version, which was published more than 20 years ago, is an excellent book, but sorely needs an update,
after all the advances in the field of particle physics since then. It would be very useful to have copies of the new edition on hand at the library, for researchers, lecturers
and students.
Jenny,
Can I second the request for:
Michael Mishchenko et al.: Multiple Scattering of Light by
Particles – Radiative Transfer and Coherent Backscattering, Cambridge
University Press, (ISBN-13: 9780521834902 | ISBN-10: 0521834902), 2006
Thanks, Paul (SPAT Physics)
Following on a similar theme,
- Weng Cho Chew: “Waves and Fields in Inhomogeneous Media”, IEEE Press (ISBN 0-7803-4749-8) 1995
I bought this on the recommendation of a colleague. I’m impressed – it’s an excellent book and well worth being made more widely available.
Dear Jenny,
I would like to suggest the following as acquisitions:
- “Geometric Algebra for Physicists” by Chris Doran & Anthony Lasenby (Cambridge University Press, ISBN 0-5214-8022-1)
- “3-D Spinors, Spin-Weighted Functions and their Applications” by Gerardo F.Torres del Castillo (Birkhauser Boston, ISBN 0-8176-3249-2)
which would be useful for phd students (such as myself) in astrophysics and in theoretical physics.
Two updated editions which we would find useful:
Optical Waveguide Theory
A.W. Snyder, J. Love
Springer-Verlag, 2Rev Ed edition (Nov 2007)
ISBN: 978-0387742243
though I don’t think it is actually out yet and
The Finite Element Method in Electromagnetics by Jianming Jin
WileyBlackwell; 2nd Edition edition (12 Jun 2002)
ISBN-: 978-0471438182
We have the previous edition, this is quite a big update.
