There are now a number of arXiv related phone apps available.  We have discovered the following:

1. ArXiview

See Mobile Physics by Peter Suber on the Open Access News blog for further info.

Features include

  • browing categories by date;
  • search arXiv;
  • save / email pre-prints/info for offline browsing;
  • read pre-prints.

2. ArXiv mobi

This app created by Brad Chase allows you to browse the last week’s updates and search the arXiv database.

3. ArXivReader

This app created by Daniel Kocevski allows you to browse and search ArXiv as well as save PDFs offline for later reading.

If you have discovered/created any useful iPhone apps related to maths, physics or science, please do post a comment to this blog with details.

The Nucleus is a website designed for physics and astronomy undergrads. There are resources for research and learning, plus links and discussion forums for talking with fellow students.

The Nucleus is also home to The Lounge, a website focused on student discussions, with contests and polls for users to participate in.

You can access the Nucleus at www.compadre.org

Another useful resource for students is the Encyclopedia for Photonics and Laser Technology.

We are currently selecting maths and physics books to add to both the Central Library and Maths Department Library collections.

These can be books for:

  • supporting research
  • undergraduate and MSc projects
  • supporting teaching (although we do a separate call for this in the summer term)

We are also particularly interested if it is a new research area, so that we can build collections in these new areas.

Please do give us suggestions on specific titles to purchase, you can email Jenny or post a comment to this blog!
