RefWorks – Changes to Access May 1, 2009

From 31 July 2009 there will be changes in access to RefWorks. The Imperial College London Library subscription to Athens will come to an end and a new authentication system called UK Federation (or Shibboleth) will replace it.

RefWorks users will continue to log in using their College username and password but using a different technology. So, if you are a RefWorks user, to maintain access to your RefWorks database, you will need to move your data from the old system (Athens) to the new (UK Federation). You will need to transfer all your references and customised output styles, etc. to a new RefWorks database created by accessing RefWorks via UK Federation.

Users will not be able to access their RefWorks database via Athens after July 2009 so must transfer their database before this date.

From the 31 March 2009 users can create their new RefWorks database via UK Federation and transfer existing databases from Athens to it. Once the new account that uses the UK Federation has been created and references transferred to this, users should stop using their Athens account for accessing RefWorks.

Click here for more detailed information on how to do this.
